Keeping Up with the Joneses Review

Keeping Up with the Joneses Review

Well. Damn.  I was planning on seeing the new Jack Reacher movie but unfortunately I did not get around to seeing it. So instead of reviewing a potentially good movie, let me demolish this dumb comedy.

Story: The story here is a regular suburban family gets caught up with their new secret spy neighbors and have to help them to save the day. Pretty straight forward. Nothing special or unique here. The problem is that it could have been very good. I was hoping it would instead focus on the spies and having to deal with these annoying civilians sticking their noses into their business. There are a few of those moments (which are pretty good) but as a whole it’s just boring.

Acting: Once again Zack Galifianakis is the star here and he’s just dull. He’s acting like he isn’t sure about himself or the script. Same goes for Isla Fisher and Gal Gadot. Jon Hamm is the savior of the day who adds several “wtf” reactions throughout the day, however not even his performance (or a brief scene with Patton Oswalt can really save this.

Presentation: Sadly this is the only thing that is done well…and by well I mean done in an ok way. The movie looks good and sounds good.

Effect: The problem is that this is a comedy and it’s just not funny. For the first 30 minutes, joke after joke rolls by with no one laughing or chuckling. It picks up a little bit in the second act but it is really just monotonous. It’s the worst crime a comedy can commit.

Other: Just…..just no. Don’t do it. Please?

Save your money and time as this film is not worth either.

Story: 5
Acting: 6
Presentation: 6
Effect: 3

Score: 4.6
