As I said in my review last week, I intended on seeing and reviewing the new Jack Reacher film however I did not have time last week and unfortunately this week I have another movie on deck to review. BUT when I did get around to seeing it, I enjoyed the new Tom Cruise action flick and figured I’d share my thoughts in another quick review.
Story: Story here is about Reacher being set up and having to go on the lamb to save an Army Major who is also being set up and a young girl that gets involved as well. The story is pretty cliched and has some kind of dumb moments, but as a whole is pretty enjoyable. Score: 7
Acting: I can’t tell if Tom Cruise is being serious or just in full “I don’t care” mode, but whatever it is, it works here. On the other hand, the rest of the cast is pretty blah but that’s what you get when the entire marketing campaign is “Tom Cruise action!!!!!” Score: 7
Presentation: Overall pretty average but there are some weird close up shots. I don’t want to see full frames of just Tom Cruise. It’ll haunt my dreams. Never again. Score: 6
Effect: Like I said, it’s pretty enjoyable. When you break it down, it’s just another mindless action movie but it is a good mindless action movie (which is something the new Jason Bourne movie could learn). Score: 8
Other: My only other gripe here is the story is kinda vague, which is fine (as I don’t need to know every little detail about what’s going on), yet about 20 minutes from the end, one of the characters just vomits exposition onto the screen and it annoyed me. Very lazy move and I’m taking points off for it. Score: 7
Wrap up: Like I said, it’s just another action movie but based on what I’ve seen this year, it’s one of the better ones of 2016.
