Quick Review: War for the Planet of the Apes

Quick Review: War for the Planet of the Apes

Ok. Fam. I was going to do a full review for the newest film in the Planet of the Apes reboot series, but then I saw it and realized I’d have difficulty talking about apes for a full review. So instead, it’s time for an Apetastic Quick Review!

Story: It’s a planet with apes. And some humans. And there’s a war. To be serious, this movie is like 90% apes and despite the use of common tropes, the fact that they are used with apes makes the film quite interesting and engaging. Score: 8

Acting: So Woody Harrelson is in the movie but is kind of an after thought. The star is Andy Serkis and he’s amazing. Not sure if his performance is Oscar worthy but it’s damn close. Score: 9

Presentation: This movie is stunning. If I didn’t have a brain, I would’ve spent the entire two hours wondering how the director found and cast a talking ape along with a bunch of other real apes that perfectly followed directions. Seriously. Those apes look as real as real af, dog. Score: 10 (with style!)

Effect: This is a good movie. Not a great movie. But a good movie. It excites and entices all while making you think about the absolute moral compass of humanity. Score: 8

Other: This movie isn’t abnormally long but my lawd does it feel long. A quick note to the director, Matt Reeves. Pacing. Pacing homeboy. Score: 7

Wrap Up: This movie is a solid flick and a fitting way to send off the PotA Reboot Series!

Final Score: 8.4
